Swedish Allsvenskan side Hammarby IF are set to sign highly-rated Ghanaian teenager Bernard Acheampong from Division Two outfit Asanska Football Club, according to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet.
The 17-year-old is expected to officially complete his move after he turns 18 later this January.
Acheampong reportedly caught the attention of Hammarby scouts during a talent-spotting mission in Ghana last November. Fotbollskanalen reports that the club’s sporting director, Mikael Hjelmberg, has confirmed that while the deal is not yet finalized, the club is optimistic about securing the young forward’s services.
“There are still some logistics involved, but the ambition is to get it done. We aim to have him join the team in Spain, where the A-team is currently in pre-season,” Hjelmberg told Fotbollskanalen.
Acheampong, praised for his potential, is expected to join Hammarby’s pre-season camp ahead of the 2025 Allsvenskan season. Coaches and scouts who have worked with him predict a bright future for the Ghanaian prodigy, with hopes that he will thrive in Sweden’s top tier.
