West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui is confident that Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus will pick positive lessons from his three-game suspension, issued after a red card against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Kudus sat out the first match of his ban during West Ham’s 2-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, a match that ended Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
Kudus faced disciplinary action from the English FA for improper conduct following an altercation with Tottenham’s Micky Van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr.
“Unfortunately, Kudus is out for three matches because his behaviour wasn’t acceptable, and he knows that,” Lopetegui said as quoted byThe Standard.
“I’m certain this won’t happen again. I talked with him, but sometimes players already know when they’ve made a mistake.”
Despite his suspension, further disciplinary measures may be imposed, potentially extending Kudus’ absence to six matches, according to Football Insider.
For now, Kudus will miss West Ham’s upcoming games against Nottingham Forest and Everton, with a possible return after the international break against Newcastle United if the original ban remains unchanged.
