South Africa coach Hugo Henri Broos has revealed the reason why Burnley striker Lyle Foster missed his 23-man squad for AFCON 2023. The Belgian tactician disclosed that it was a decision which was behind his control.
“Vincent Kompany told me that Lyle [Foster] was agitated when he saw his name on Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squad. Don’t think that I am telling you something that is not true. It’s surprising also for me, but Lyle Foster will not be with us, “Hugo Broos said.
The experienced tactician, 71, who won the 2017 AFCON for Cameroon disclosed the rumours about a letter Foster wrote to the SAFA.
“Lyle Foster wrote a letter to SAFA requesting he doesn’t want to be at AFCON. I’m not happy that he’s not there, but again this is a medical decision.” – Broos revealed.
Lyle Foster, 23, missed 8 games for Burnley through injuries before making appearances in Burnley’s last 3 games.
Lyle Foster was expected to form a fearsome attack with Percy Tau and Themba Zwane for the Bafana Bafana in the 2023 AFCON.
