“I am capable and it’s my time for the Job” – Michael Osei reacts after applying for the Black Stars coaching job

Ghanaian coach Michael Osei has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant coaching position of the Black Stars.

The Ghana Football Association took the decision to part ways with former coach Chris Hughton, particularly due to the underwhelming performance of the national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where they failed to progress from Group B.

Currently managing Ghanaian top-flight side Bibiani Goldstars SC, Osei is eager to take on the role and has emphasized the need for a strategic approach to address the current state of the team.

In an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, the former Ghana International shared his vision for a transition-focused project that prioritizes the rebuilding of a powerful team.

Osei outlined his plan to construct the team around young players within the setup, laying the foundation for a formidable squad.

Additionally, he expressed the intention to provide opportunities for local players and encourage them to stay in the country, fostering development for the senior national team.

“Let’s just put aside winning the AFCON for now,” Osei remarked. “Instead, consider transition and building a powerful team. When given the opportunity to head the team, I plan to construct my team around the young people on the team, as most countries do.”

He highlighted the importance of developing strong basics over immediate trophy success and affirmed his qualifications for the role as a CAF licence A and UEFA B licence holder.

“Also, offer opportunities for local players and strive to keep them in the country so that we can develop more for our senior national team. For the time being, my focus is on developing strong basics rather than winning trophies”.

He added that; “I am quite qualified and will be delighted if given the opportunity to lead the team”

With a coaching background that includes roles as Black Meteors assistant manager, Head coach of New Edubiase United FC, Star Madrid FC, Liberty Professionals FC, and Asante Kotoko SC, Osei expressed his readiness and enthusiasm if given the opportunity to lead the Black Stars.
