Inaki Williams, the talented forward from Athletic Bilbao, has revealed that he will not be available to represent Ghana in their upcoming match against Madagascar this month.
Williams was among the 24 players called up by Ghana head coach Chris Hughton for the Africa Cup of Nations qualification game.
However, due to a persistent knee injury that has caused him discomfort in recent weeks, he has decided, in consultation with medical professionals, to prioritize his recovery and be fully fit for the preseason.
In a statement, Williams expressed his regret at not being able to join his national team for the upcoming match, but he assured fans of his unwavering commitment to the Black Stars.
He expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and emphasized that he will eagerly return to the team if deemed appropriate by the coach in future call-ups.
“Since a few weeks I’ve been playing with pain in my right knee. I decided to play until the end of the season, but after having spoken to the medical services, we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to be 100% for the preseason.
“This wasn’t an easy decision to make because I won’t be able to be with my national team, Ghana the next meeting,” Inaki Williams announced.
“I want to say that I am fully committed and I will come back with the Black Stars if the coach deems it appropriate next calls.
“Thank you for your support.”
Ghana will face Madagascar in an away fixture on June 18. A victory in this crucial match could secure qualification for the Black Stars to participate in the tournament, which is set to be held in Ivory Coast.
