Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has publicly apologized to President Akufo-Addo for implicating him in the Anas exposé scandal.
In an exclusive interview with Onua TV, Nyantakyi expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that he overstepped boundaries during his interactions with the so-called Arabian investors.
‘‘I admit I was wrong to mention the President and his vice in that incident. I am sorry and I hope they forgive me,’’ he said.
Nyantakyi’s fall from grace came in 2018 when he was ousted from his position by FIFA and CAF following the release of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative documentary, “Number 12.” The documentary uncovered widespread corruption in Ghanaian football, capturing Nyantakyi in compromising conversations with potential investors.
During these discussions, Nyantakyi went beyond the scope of football matters, advising the investors to offer bribes to the President, Vice President, and certain cabinet ministers to facilitate business ventures in Ghana.
Expressing remorse for his actions, Nyantakyi admitted to his mistake, acknowledging that his remarks were unwarranted and seeking forgiveness from all those implicated, including the ministers mentioned.
‘‘When I met the so called Sheikh Al-Thani, I suggested to him that he needed to give monies to the President and his vice. I was wrong at the time and I should not have said that. I regret those comments and I hope all including the Ministers I mentioned are able to forgive me.’’
Despite his past controversies, Nyantakyi has ventured into politics and is now aspiring to represent the New Patriotic Party as a parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu constituency.
