Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari has described his goal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the best moment of his career, admitting that copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siiuu’ celebration helped boost his popularity.
The 26-year-old, who currently plays for Major League Soccer side Austin FC, has scored once in three appearances in the ongoing 2025 season.
Bukari was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and scored in their opening match against Portugal. His goal in the 3-2 defeat at Stadium 974 was followed by a bold ‘Siiuu’ celebration, performed right in front of Ronaldo, drawing global attention.
Speaking in an interview with KVUE News, the speedy winger acknowledged that the goal was a defining moment in his career, and the celebration made him even more recognizable.
“What came to my mind first was, ‘So I scored a goal? I scored a goal?’ If you watch the video, I was in disbelief. It was a beautiful moment in my life to score at the World Cup.”
Bukari also revealed that his celebration sparked a wave of reactions, with many people in Ghana now associating him with the moment.
“After the game, I received a lot of messages from people asking why I did the celebration. Some thought it was great. Now in Ghana, a lot of people know me because of that moment. If I go home and my name is mentioned, people ask, ‘Who is Bukari?’ And the response is always, ‘He’s the one who did Ronaldo’s celebration.’”
The former Red Star Belgrade forward is now hoping to earn a place in Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
