Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena acknowledges a challenging debut season with the Porcupine Warriors, expressing determination for a stronger performance in the upcoming campaign.
Dwamena, who joined Kotoko before the commencement of the Ghana Premier League season, committed to a three-year contract with the club.
Despite his efforts, the 24-year-old made 19 appearances across various competitions, registering only one goal.
His journey with the club faced a setback when he sustained an injury during a match against Karela United, sidelining him for a month.
Now recovered, Dwamena is eager to contribute to Kotoko’s lineup as they prepare to face Legon Cities this weekend.
Reflecting on his transition from WAFA to Kotoko, Dwamena highlighted challenges in adaptation due to differences in support, environment, and facilities.
“Playing at WAFA and then coming to Kotoko are two different things. The support base, the environment and the condition of services are not the same. For me, adaptation was a problem. The fans will get to know the Michael they knew at WAFA from next season,” he told the club’s media.
Despite his struggles, Dwamena appeals to the fans for patience, assuring them of a resurgence in form next season.
“I know this is not how I play. Those who knows how I play can attest to the qualities I possessed. This season, I have been shambolic. I didn’t live up to expectations. I will plead with the fans to have patience and I believe they will enjoy every bit of me next season” he said.
Fit-again Kyei Dwamena is in contention to make the squad this weekend as Kotoko host Legon Cities in Kumasi.
