  • The former RSC Anderlecht winger is determined not to give up on his chances of playing at the next FIFA World Cup for Ghana.

Grêmio forward Francis Amuzu, says he could make coach Otto Addo’s Ghana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after vowing to work hard to command more playing time with his Brazilian club.

Amuzu said this while also highlighing on his failed return to former Belgian club RSC Anderlect in the 2025 Summer transfer.

Speaking in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Amuzu mentioned that his transfer to Gremio wasn’t exactly a sure thing. “I’ve played very little for Grêmio. So I considered going back to Anderlecht in the summer.

He added. Anderlecht is my hometown, so it was definitely an option for me. “I told my agent and we were in touch, but it never materialized.”

Off the pitch, Amuzu and his family immediately felt comfortable in Brazil, but things didn’t go smoothly on the pitch. He ended up on the bench and was even left out of the squad for a while.

Things turned around in September: he’s been playing a lot since then. “The league starts again next weekend. I want to continue on the same path as last season,” he says. “Who knows, I might even be able to go to the World Cup with Ghana.”

The talented attacker still has a contract with Gremio until the end of this year. His goal remains to play in a major European league.

Amuzu, a fomer teammate of Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku is now hoping to get the chance to represent Ghana’s Black Stars at the senior national level, having previously turned down an invite to play for Ghana under both Coach Kwasi Appiah and CK Akonnor.
