Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down concerns over his side’s recent lack of goals from their strikers, insisting the team’s collective effort matters more than individual statistics.
Tanko made the remarks following Medeama’s narrow 1-0 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak at the TNA Stadium, a result secured by former Hearts midfielder Salim Adams, who scored the decisive goal against his old club.
The win further strengthened Medeama’s grip at the top of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League table. The Tarkwa-based side now sit on 34 points, holding a two-point advantage over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Tanko expressed satisfaction with the result and appeared unconcerned when asked about his forwards’ struggles in front of goal.
“No. I think we are a team. If the defenders score the goals for us to get what we want, that’s fine,” Tanko said.
The Medeama coach also expressed confidence that goals will come from other areas of the pitch, particularly midfield, as long as his side continue to create chances.
“Our midfielders, with how we play, will definitely get chances. If they make use of them, they will score more goals,” he added.
Medeama will look to maintain their strong league form when they face Young Apostles on Sunday, January 11, as they continue their push for the Premier League title.
