“If Gianni leaves FIFA and Africa has not had time to achieve its goals, we will have a lot of difficulties”- Samuel Eto’o

FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o thinks Africa will struggle to develop its football if the continent does not take advantage of Gianni Infantino’s presence as the president of the World Football governing body, FIFA.

“Today we are lucky because we have a president at the head of FIFA who loves Africa,” said Eto’o.

The former Barcelona and Cameroon striker believes Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, has Africa as a continent at heart as he is committed to helping Africa grow in terms of football.

“I don’t always agree with Gianni Infantino but if Gianni leaves FIFA and Africa has not had time to achieve its goals, we will have a lot of difficulties,” added Eto’o.

The continent has been probably the poorest when it comes to the development of football as Africa lacks the proper infrastructure to develop its talent and also makes the game look attractive.

Concerning football academies, sub-Saharan Africa is far behind and it is a huge concern as many of the best academies are for foreigners.

Gianni Infantino has been the president of FIFA since 2016 and under his tenure, the world has seen chances given to minnows to showcase what they have for football.

Many countries like Mauritania, Equatorial Guinea, Armenia and Albania among many others have seen massive improvements.

Samuel Eto’o thinks Africa must take the presence of Infantino to develop their football.

Gianni Infantino has a wonderful relationship with CAF president Patrice Motsepe.

Africa is now seen as a hub for bonafide football talents as European scouts have been seen doing their job on the length and breadth of the continent.
