Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku says he is full of confidence ahead of the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, as he prepares for his second appearance on football’s biggest stage.

The Leicester City star, who featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as a teenager, says his previous experience has prepared him to play a bigger role this time.

“I feel amazing because it’s always a dream come true to be part of a World Cup team. I’m privileged to be part of this team, and this is my second time. The first time was about experience and I learnt a lot. Now I’m going to put in everything to help the team get to a better position,” he said.

Issahaku has been involved in Ghana’s preparations, including the friendly against Wales which ended 1-1, and says the atmosphere in camp has been positive.

“So far, so good. The energy in camp is great, and everyone is ready. Training is going well and we’re just getting ready. Personally, I’ve enjoyed the sessions. It’s positive — I can see the changes. We’re getting fit and getting ready for the game,” he noted.

The Black Stars are set to travel from Rhode Island to face Panama in their opening Group L match on Wednesday, and Issahaku believes the team is ready for the challenge.

“Looking at the team, I have so much confidence in the guys. Everyone is ready and the training we’re doing is helping. I think it’s going to make us fitter, improve us, and help the team move forward,” he added.

He also urged Ghanaian fans to continue supporting the team throughout the tournament.

“My message to Ghanaians is simple: keep the support and keep praying for us. We’ll be here working hard to make you proud,” Issahaku said.
