Joseph Paintsil, the forward for the Black Stars, has stated that he does not feel pressured to score or provide assists in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.
Ghana’s national team is set to face the Bereas at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium in Antananarivo, Madagascar on June 18th as part of the fifth round of AFCON qualifiers for the 2023 tournament.
Paintsil had an outstanding season with Genk, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists in 36 games. However, when asked about feeling pressured to replicate his club form, he responded, “For me, I’m not under pressure to score or assist. My focus is always on helping the team through assists, defensive contributions, and fighting for the collective cause.”
He emphasized that his primary task is to contribute to the team’s success, regardless of whether he scores or assists. He believes that teamwork and producing results for Ghanaians are more important than individual achievements.
With just a draw needed to secure their place in the tournament held in Ivory Coast, Chris Hughton’s team currently leads Group E with 8 points from two wins and two draws in their four group games. Paintsil’s remarks reflect the team’s collective mindset and determination to achieve success by working together.
