Former Asante Kotoko board member Bernard Ziel has voiced his dissatisfaction over the way the club handled the appointment and subsequent resignation of head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
Speaking on Kessben Sports, Ziel suggested that the leadership acted too hastily by promoting Zito to head coach, arguing that a more measured approach would have been better for both the club and the coach.
“I’m unhappy Coach Zito had to resign. To start with, the leadership should’ve taken things slowly with his appointment as the head coach, since he was brought in as a technical director initially. They could’ve maintained him as such and taken time to look for a substantive coach,” Ziel said.
His comments highlight ongoing debate over Kotoko’s management decisions, especially as the Porcupine Warriors navigate a turbulent period following Zito’s exit and a string of mixed results in the Ghana Premier League.
Ziel’s criticism underlines the need for careful planning and strategy in managerial appointments to ensure stability at one of Ghana’s most historic clubs.
Sunday’s Super Clash against Hearts of Oak will be one of the first major tests for the team under interim management.
