Newly appointed Ghana captain Jordan Ayew believes his leadership role with the Black Stars was destined, following in the footsteps of his father, Abedi Pele, and brother, André Ayew.
In an interview with the BBC, Ayew described his appointment as a natural progression in his career. “It’s just something that was written in the stars,” he said. “We’re just a passionate family. We just want to do our best and let the people enjoy our game.”
Despite taking over the captaincy, the former Crystal Palace forward remains focused on Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign.
“I’m not someone who thinks about being captain or having a leadership role,” he noted. “I just want to enjoy playing football, winning games, scoring goals, and making people happy.”
Ayew will lead the Black Stars in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, as Ghana aims to secure vital points.
