Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Akua Sena Dansua, has voiced her disappointment with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for failing to retain Nora Häuptle, the former head coach of the Black Queens, calling the situation a “shame” and a missed opportunity for the growth of women’s football in Ghana.
Häuptle, who recently signed a multi-year contract with the Zambian Football Federation to coach the Copper Queens, was announced as their new head coach on January 4, 2025.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Dansua criticized the GFA’s handling of Häuptle’s contract renewal, suggesting that inadequate resources and interference in the coach’s duties may have contributed to her departure.
“It’s a shame. It may boil down to interference in her work. There may also be a lack of resources,” Dansua stated. “When you compare female football to male football, you see that almost 90% of resources go to the men’s teams, especially the national team.”
Häuptle’s tenure with the Black Queens was marked by significant achievements, including securing the team’s qualification for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) for the first time since 2018.
