Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo has assured the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of his unwavering support for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
During a meeting with the GFA delegation led by Kurt Okraku, the President pledged the necessary backing to ensure the team’s success in the prestigious tournament.
As Ghana seeks their fifth continental trophy, the Black Stars find themselves in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. Acknowledging the nation’s football passion, President Akufo Addo emphasized the collective responsibility to provide the technical team and players with the essential support for a successful campaign in neighboring Cote D’Ivoire.
“Ghanaians are obsessed with football, and you have the mandate of ensuring that our game is on the right path. We have the Africa Cup of Nations in a few days, and it is our responsibility to give the technical team and the playing body the needed support to succeed in neighboring Cote D’Ivoire,” he stated.
While Ghana boasts a rich AFCON history with four titles, their last triumph occurred in 1982. The President’s commitment comes as the nation hopes to overcome past finals defeats and make a strong impact in the upcoming tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
