Ghanaian international Jeffrey Schlupp has revealed that a conversation with former Leicester City teammate Kasper Schmeichel played a key role in his decision to join Celtic.
Schlupp completed a deadline-day transfer from Crystal Palace to the Scottish champions on a short-term deal until the end of the season. He is expected to make his debut tonight when Celtic face Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking to Celtic TV, the 32-year-old expressed his excitement about the move and his reunion with Schmeichel, with whom he won the Premier League title at Leicester in 2016.
“Kasper was one of the first people I spoke to when this opportunity came up,” Schlupp shared.
“He messaged me, and we talked about how great the club is. He told me I’d enjoy playing here, and I can’t wait to link up with him again.”
Schlupp is determined to make a strong impact at Celtic, aiming to contribute to the club’s pursuit of a domestic treble and their upcoming Champions League play-off clash against Bayern Munich.
“I want to repay the manager’s faith in me with some good performances,” he added. “Hopefully, we can achieve some great things together.”
