Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has heaped praise on Thomas Partey for his outstanding performance against his former club.
Arsenal hosted the reigning champions at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Partey delivering a commanding midfield display. His ability to disrupt City’s play and distribute passes effectively played a key role in Arsenal’s dominance.
The Gunners took the lead in the first half through Martin Ødegaard, but City responded with an equalizer from Erling Haaland. However, Partey restored Arsenal’s advantage with a crucial goal, capping off a brilliant individual performance.
The momentum stayed with the home side as Myles Lewis-Skelly extended their lead in the 62nd minute, courtesy of a Declan Rice assist. Kai Havertz then added a fourth in the 76th minute, converting a well-placed pass from Gabriel Martinelli. The scoring was completed deep into stoppage time when Ethan Nwaneri finished off a Rice cross, sealing a dominant 5-1 victory for Arsenal.
After the match, Hart, who played for Manchester City from 2006 to 2018, spoke highly of the Ghanaian midfielder’s performance.
“Thomas Partey was excellent against Manchester City,” Hart said on Premier League Productions.
“He did not stop running in midfield. Partey and Martin Ødegaard controlled the game well, especially in midfield, but Partey was excellent,” he added.
With his goal against City, Partey now has three goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.
The 30-year-old will aim to help Arsenal overturn a 2-0 deficit when they travel to St. James’ Park on Wednesday for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal against Newcastle United.
