Young Ghanaian forward Joseph Opoku played a key role in Zulte Waregem’s return to the Belgian top division after they clinched promotion with a vital 2-1 win over RWD Molenbeek at the Elindus Arena on Friday night.
The win crowned Waregem as champions of the Challenger Pro League, finishing the campaign with 59 points and sealing their spot in the Belgian Pro League next season.
Opoku, a lively 19-year-old attacker, entered the match as a substitute in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact.
With just four minutes remaining, he delivered a superb assist to experienced forward Jelle van Vossen, who calmly slotted home the decisive goal, confirming Waregem’s triumph in front of their home fans.
