As Southampton gear up to face Arsenal in their final Premier League match of the 2022/23 season, winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has reflected on the emotional toll of a difficult campaign that ended in relegation.
The Ghanaian forward described the season as “long, both emotionally and physically,” acknowledging the disappointment of dropping to the Championship. Despite their fate being sealed weeks ago, Sulemana remains focused on helping the team finish strong when they meet the Gunners at St. Mary’s on Sunday.
Throughout the turbulent season, Southampton fans have continued to show unwavering support—something Sulemana deeply appreciates.
“They have always been there,” he said after their recent loss to Everton. “Regardless of the results, they kept showing up for us. I think they have been there from the beginning of the season and we are lucky to have them.”
Looking ahead, Sulemana said the players are determined to give the fans a final reason to smile before shifting focus to the task of earning promotion back to the top flight.
“I think they deserve better,” he added. “We should try to end the season on a good note and give them something to cheer for as we go back to the Championship.”
