Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed his desire for the Black Stars to not only qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but also reach the finals of the prestigious tournament, set to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars are on course to secure a spot in the competition following dominant victories in their recent World Cup qualifying matches. The team delivered an impressive 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 3-0 triumph against Madagascar in the fifth and sixth rounds of the qualifiers. These back-to-back victories have propelled Ghana to the top of Group I, with just four matches remaining in the qualification campaign.
Speaking in an audio aired on Kessben FM, Kofi Adams reaffirmed his ambition for Ghana to make a deep run in the tournament.
“Ghana must play at the world stage next year. Indeed, we should be able to not just play, I wish that we play and even play the finals,” he stated.
The Black Stars will regroup in September 2025 to continue their quest for World Cup qualification.
Across the continent, African football fans remain eager to see an African nation achieve a historic milestone in the competition. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Morocco made history by becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals, surpassing the previous best records set by Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002), and Ghana (2010), who all reached the quarter-finals.
