Asante Kotoko is preparing to propose a major change to the Ghana Premier League regulations. The club plans to present a proposal at the next Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress to increase the number of foreign players allowed in each matchday squad.
Currently, clubs can register up to five non-Ghanaian players but are restricted to fielding only three in a match. Kotoko argues that raising this limit would enhance competition and strengthen the league.
The proposal comes in the wake of Kotoko’s recent signings, including Congolese defender Samba O’Neil, who has already made a notable impact. The club has also added two Sudanese players: forward AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub and defender Esmat Hassabalbagi.
With plans to bring in more international talent, Kotoko aims to improve their prospects for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen if the proposal will receive sufficient backing from the GFA Congress to be approved.
