Assistant coach of the Sudan national team, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has lavished praise on Kwesi Appiah, hailing him as the best coach to have managed the Black Stars of Ghana over the past decade.
Appiah, who last coached the national team in 2019, guided Ghana to the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. Despite his successes, he was dismissed by the administration led by Kurt Okraku and replaced by Charles Akonnor.
However, Appiah’s coaching acumen was further showcased when he led Sudan to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a historic achievement for the country.
Speaking on the impact of the 66-year-old coach, Osei Fosu emphasized that Appiah remains the best to have ever coached the Black Stars in recent years. “Kwesi Appiah is the best coach in the last 10 years to have handled the Black Stars,” Osei Fosu remarked on MAX TV.
Appiah has also proven successful in his current role with Sudan. In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, he has guided the Falcons of Jediane to the top of Group B with 10 points after four matches. Sudan will look to build on this strong start when they face Senegal and South Sudan in March 2025.
During his tenure with the Black Stars, Appiah recorded 7 wins in 54 competitive matches.
