Former Black Stars head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, has named former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan as the best player he has ever coached.

Appiah shared the sentiment during a Q&A session with 3Sports, reflecting on his time managing Gyan during his two spells as Black Stars coach—first from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2020.

Gyan became Ghana’s all-time top scorer under Appiah’s leadership, notably scoring a brace in a 3-1 win over Sudan in 2013 to cement his place in history.

While Appiah didn’t provide further details on his choice, he also revealed that his favorite stadium is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Currently the head coach of Sudan, Appiah has successfully guided the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
