Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), remains hopeful that 2025 will be a year of prosperity for Ghanaian football, despite the setbacks the country’s national teams faced in 2024.
His comments come on the back of the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco later this year. The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F in the qualifiers, securing only three points from three draws and three defeats.
The disappointment was compounded by the Black Galaxies’ failure to qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after losing to Nigeria.
While acknowledging these setbacks, Asante Twum pointed to some successes, including the performances of the Black Satellites and Black Princesses, who brought pride to the nation. He remains optimistic about the future.
“The year 2024 was a bad year for our football. The Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament and the Black Galaxies also failed to qualify for the CHAN tournament,” he told Asempa FM.
“The Black Satellites and Black Princesses made us proud, but I believe that the year 2025 will be a good year for our football,” he added.
Asante Twum also expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ efforts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, hoping that the team will achieve this goal in the coming year.
