Leicester City have completed the permanent transfer of Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Sporting Lisbon for a reported €17 million, a deal that will see Steadfast FC, the club of Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu, receive a significant windfall.
The Foxes activated the clause in Issahaku’s contract, which was purchased by Sporting Lisbon in 2022 for €1.2 million, to secure the 22-year-old’s services. The value gain on the transfer will be shared between Steadfast FC and Sporting Lisbon, with Steadfast set to receive €7.9 million.
Issahaku, who has been hailed as one of Ghana’s most exciting prospects, has impressed in his debut season at Leicester City, playing 60% of the team’s games as they gained promotion. He has registered seven goals and 13 assists in his first season in the English top flight.
The talented winger has also enjoyed success at international level, helping Ghana’s Under-20 team win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in 2021 and featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
He is set to reunite with his Leicester City teammates as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on August 19.
