Karela United bounced back from their recent poor form by securing a resounding 3-0 victory over 10-man Hearts of Oak at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park. The result dealt a blow to Hearts’ title hopes and marked their worst defeat of the season.

Goals from Owusu Boakye, Konadu Yiadom, and Richard Berko sealed the win for Karela United, who had been hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone prior to the match. The victory boosted their position in the standings to 11th.

Former Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed played a pivotal role in the win, setting up two of the three goals. Boakye opened the scoring in the 17th minute by nodding in Fatawu’s cross, and Konadu Yiadom doubled the lead by turning in another Fatawu cross.

Hearts of Oak’s chances of a comeback were diminished when defender Rashid Okine was sent off just before halftime for a foul on Abdul Ayeh as the last man.

In the second half, Karela United maintained their dominance and sealed the win through Berko’s goal in the 87th minute, finishing off a counterattack with style.

Karela United will face King Faisal in their next match, while Hearts of Oak will seek to return to winning ways against Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium.
