Former GFA Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo has made a passionate case for Mathew Anim Cudjoe to be included in the Black Stars squad, drawing comparisons to West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus.
Anim Cudjoe, 21, is a highly-rated young player who made a name for himself with Asante Kotoko at just 16, representing Ghana at various youth levels, including the U-20 team.
Despite his promising start, Anim Cudjoe’s career has stalled since joining Scottish side Dundee United and he is now a free agent after not extending his contract. However, Anim Addo believes that Cudjoe possesses qualities comparable to Kudus’, who is known for his exceptional dribbling skills and fearlessness on the pitch.
“In my opinion, the boy’s talent is beyond normal; if you look at Mohammed Kudus in the Black Stars, my son is the only one in Ghana who has those qualities that Kudus possesses,” Anim Addo told Luv FM in Kumasi. “If we give him the opportunity and he gets the right environment and the right structure, Matthew should be on the Black Stars team minimum as a bench player.”
According to Anim Addo, Cudjoe has the same qualities that make Kudus an asset to the Black Stars, including his fearlessness and exceptional dribbling skills. He believes that Cudjoe should be considered as a substitute option when Kudus may not be performing at his best.
“The day Kudus is not sparkling and needs to be substituted, Matthew is the player we should be thinking of because all those qualities Kudus has, Mathew has them too. Matthew is fearless and you know it, it’s not easy to get young chaps with that kind of mentality and heart, and we need to use them,” Anim Addo emphasized.
