Medeama SC midfielder and Ghana U20 captain Kelvin Nkrumah is on the verge of completing a move to Portuguese giants FC Porto, in a deal set to become one of the biggest transfers involving a Ghana Premier League youngster this summer.
The 19-year-old midfielder is expected to finalize the switch after returning from the WAFU B U20 Championship, where he is leading the Black Satellites in their regional campaign.
Sources close to the deal indicate that Nkrumah will initially join FC Porto’s U19 team as part of the club’s renowned youth development system, with the aim of progressing to the reserve side and eventually breaking into the senior squad.
The move follows two impressive seasons with Medeama SC, where Nkrumah developed into one of Ghana’s most promising young midfielders.
He made 57 appearances across the last two Ghana Premier League campaigns, including 30 league games in the 2025/26 season, where he scored two goals.
Although his attacking numbers remain modest, Nkrumah has earned recognition for his composure on the ball, tactical awareness, leadership qualities and ability to control the tempo of matches.
His performances also earned him an opportunity to train with the Black Stars last season, highlighting the growing belief in his potential at the national level.
A move to Porto would provide Nkrumah with a pathway similar to many young African talents who have developed in Portugal before moving on to top European competitions.
The transfer is expected to be completed after Ghana’s participation in the WAFU B U20 Championship, with the midfielder set to begin a new chapter of his career in Portugal.
