Jonathan Sowah, one of Ghana’s most lethal strikers, is overjoyed after leading Medeama SC to their first-ever Premier League title on Sunday.
The former Danbort FC goal-scoring machine delivered a stunning brace on the final day, sending the Tarkwa-based club into a state of euphoria.
“Today is one of the greatest moments of my life, and I attribute it to God for how far he has brought me. Scoring twice to end the season is simply incredible, and I will never forget this momentous day,” Sowah expressed in an interview with Times Sports.
“I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the coaching and management staff, the fans, the people of Tarkwa, and everyone who played a part in making this day possible. I am also thankful to my former club Danbort FC for their unwavering support, and I wish them the best of luck in the upcoming Middle League,” he added.
The prolific striker netted 12 goals in 20 games for Medeama SC, emerging as the club’s top scorer of the season.
Although Medeama only needed a draw to secure the betPawa Premiership title on Sunday, they decided to do it in style with a resounding 3-0 victory over Tamale City at the Akoon Park.
The result condemned Tamale City to relegation, igniting an endless celebration in the Tarkwa Township that would continue deep into the night.
Sowah joined Medeama midway through the season after an impressive stint with Danbort FC, where he scored 23 goals in all competitions.
The 24-year-old striker had an outstanding campaign in the Greater Accra Zone Two League last season, scoring four hat-tricks against clubs such as Rences FC, Tema United, Teshie Unique, and Adenta Chase.
With six assists and five MVP awards to his name, the agile and strong-bodied forward secured a three-year deal with Medeama, donning the mauve and yellow colors.
Medeama will now represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League, while former champions Aduana Stars finished second after defeating Bechem United 1-0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on the final day of the season.
Before the last group matches, Bechem and Aduana occupied the second and third positions on the league table with 54 and 52 points respectively.
