Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has lauded Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey for his crucial goal in the Gunners’ 5-1 triumph over Manchester City.
Arteta described Partey’s strike as the “turning point” in the match, as it came just over a minute after Erling Haaland had equalized for City.
Partey’s shot, which deflected off City defender John Stones before beating goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, played a pivotal role in shifting momentum in Arsenal’s favor. Arteta credited the goal with giving his side the confidence to take control and add three more goals.
The Arsenal boss agreed with Pep Guardiola’s assessment that Partey’s goal was a decisive moment in the game.
“Yeah, that’s another thing that went our way, because, emotionally, I think that was a turning point,” Arteta said.
“We reacted so quickly, had a bit of luck in that action, and that set the tone for the team in the stadium as well, to go and win the game.”
The emphatic win over Manchester City was a major statement by Arsenal, with Partey’s goal playing a crucial role in securing the victory. It marked his third goal in 23 league appearances this season.
