Asante Kotoko secured a spot in the MTN FA Cup semifinals with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over True Democracy at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Saaka Dauda gave the Porcupine Warriors an early advantage in the 13th minute, pouncing on a quick throw-in before firing past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. Kotoko had a chance to extend their lead in the 38th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Kwame Opoku was fouled in the box. However, Justice Blay’s effort struck the post, allowing True Democracy to stay in contention.
The visitors capitalized on that missed opportunity and drew level in the 61st minute. Botchway’s free-kick took a heavy deflection off the defensive wall, leaving goalkeeper Mohammed Camara stranded as the ball found the net.
With the game seemingly heading toward a penalty shootout, Kwame Opoku delivered a dramatic winner in the 93rd minute. The forward’s decisive strike ensured Kotoko’s progression to the next stage of the competition.
Kotoko will now take on Berekum Chelsea in the semifinals, with the winner set to face either Attram De Visser or Golden Kick in the final.
