Sports and Recreation Minister-designate Kofi Adams has criticized the ongoing practice of national team management committees receiving per diem allowances while players, particularly women’s teams and junior male squads, face delays in their payments.
This issue has long plagued Ghanaian sports, with players often voicing frustrations over delayed allowances, even as management officials receive their entitlements promptly. Critics argue that such disparities demoralize athletes who sacrifice to represent the nation.
“I don’t think the national team management committees should pay themselves per diem when the players have not received theirs,” Adams said in an interview with Kasapa FM.
He emphasized the need to prioritize the athletes, stating, “We must serve the people we are there for before serving ourselves.” He described the current practice as both unfair and damaging to team morale.
