Port City FC secured their first-ever Ghana Premier League victory on Sunday after defeating Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi.
The newly promoted side made a fast start and took the lead in the seventh minute through Francis Gyetuah, who calmly finished his opportunity to put Port City ahead.
Berekum Chelsea returned from the break with greater urgency and were rewarded in the 66th minute when Jamal Haruna found the equaliser.
The game remained closely contested as both teams searched for the winning goal, but it was Port City who eventually found the breakthrough.
Gyetuah struck again in the 79th minute to complete his brace and restore Port City’s lead.
The newcomers held on during the closing stages to secure all three points and record a landmark victory in their maiden Ghana Premier League campaign.
The win also gives Port City an important boost after they began the season with a draw against fellow newcomers FC Ashantigold 04.
