Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has revealed that attempts to remove him from office were widely known.
During an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Mr. Nyantakyi shared that he attained various positions during his tenure based on merit.
He pointed out the inaccuracy of some media reports, stating that many were sponsored by opponents who perceived him as a competitor.
“Not all media reports are accurate; most of them are sponsored by opponents. People who see and perceive you as competitors in life, they want to clear you and make way”
Mr. Nyantakyi emphasized that the plots to remove him intensified when he held significant roles, such as the first Vice President of CAF, one of the seven African Representatives on the FIFA Council, and the President for the West African Football Union.
“When people planned to take me out of the GFA then I was the first Vice President of CAF, I was one of the seven African Representatives on the FIFA Council. I was the President for the West African Football Union,” Mr. Nyantakyi stated.
Contrary to the perception that removing him would lead to taking over these positions, Mr. Nyantakyi clarified that he earned these roles on merit. He referred to the attempts to oust him as an open secret and a clear effort to eliminate him from those positions.
“So the impression was that if you take Kwesi off then you take over those positions. But it wasn’t so, he went there on merit. It was a plot to take Kwesi Nyantakyi off, it’s an open secret and clear as day light.”
Discussing his removal from office, Mr. Nyantakyi noted that the move was based on perception, and he acknowledged that crime is a natural occurrence, punishable when caught.
Even during his court proceedings, he highlighted that the lead witness statement mentioned a perception of bribery and corruption at the GFA, which they aimed to test.
“Even when I was taken to court the lead witness statement said there was a perception of bribery and corruption at the GFA and they want to test it,” he explained.
