RC Lens has officially confirmed the departure of Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed, who has joined English Championship side AFC Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.
Abdul Samed had been on the transfer radar of several French clubs throughout the summer, with FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne all expressing interest in acquiring the 23-year-old.
However, with new Lens manager Will Still placing him on the fringes of the squad, Abdul Samed opted for a move to England instead.
The midfielder, who made 39 appearances across all competitions for Lens last season, including in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, will now be looking to make an impact under Sunderland’s new manager, Régis Le Bris, formerly of FC Lorient.
The deal, finalized on transfer deadline day, is a straight loan without an option to buy, meaning Abdul Samed will return to Lens at the end of the 2024/25 season.
