Ernest Nuamah (20) was on the brink of a last-minute transfer from Olympique Lyonnais to Fulham, but the deal ultimately collapsed.
According to L’Équipe, the Ghanaian winger opted to remain at Lyon, despite strong interest from the Premier League club.
Initially, it was expected that Nuamah would join Everton, with whom OL owner John Textor is in talks to purchase. The young winger had even agreed terms with Everton, as reported by Foot Mercato. However, Fulham made a last-minute attempt to hijack the deal.
Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano initially reported that an agreement had been reached between Fulham and Lyon. But Romano later revealed that the deal was on the verge of falling apart due to “new issues” that arose.
Now, L’Équipe has provided further insight, revealing that it was Nuamah himself who decided against the move. The publication notes that the player chose to stay at Lyon, especially since the Ligue 1 club had not yet found a suitable replacement. “He loves Lyon,” his entourage told L’Équipe.
Nuamah’s decision to remain in France highlights his commitment to Lyon, where he has been a key player since joining.
The collapse of the Fulham deal ensures that the talented winger will continue to ply his trade in Ligue 1, at least for the foreseeable future.
