Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has emphasized the urgency of winning Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, stressing that securing maximum points is crucial.
Despite receiving backing from the Ghana Football Association and the government, Addo understands that his position remains under scrutiny, especially after Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars endured a disappointing AFCON campaign, failing to win any of their six matches and missing out on the tournament for the first time in 20 years.
As part of efforts to rally national support, Addo recently visited the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, where he called for unity behind the team. “Ghana urgently needs victories to qualify for the [2026] World Cup,” Addo said. “We need the support of all Ghanaians, especially the Ga Chiefs, to help us in this task so the whole nation can be happy.”
The Black Stars will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for their clash with Madagascar three days later.
Ghana is currently tied on points with Comoros at the top of the qualification group, with only the group winner securing an automatic place at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
