Desmond Ofei, coach of the Black Satellites, lauds his team’s efficiency following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Senegal, securing Ghana’s place in the final of the 13th African Games football competition.
In a postgame interview, Ofei emphasized the clinical performance of his players, whose resilience paved the way for Ghana to vie for its first football gold medal since 2011.
The decisive goal, courtesy of substitute Michael Ephson in the 83rd minute, propelled Ghana into contention for the ultimate prize, setting the stage for a thrilling final clash.
Reflecting on the match, Ofei acknowledged Senegal’s strategic approach, noting their reliance on long balls. However, he commended his players for their perseverance and clinical execution, capitalizing on their lone clear opportunity to secure victory.
“They opted for the long ball, which caught us a bit off guard as we anticipated a more strategic approach from such a formidable team. Despite a lack of clear-cut chances in the first half, our perseverance paid off. My players are clinical; we capitalized on our one clear opportunity. I can’t recall any instance where we squandered our chances.”
With their eyes set on gold, Ghana’s Black Satellites are gearing up to face Uganda in the final showdown on Friday, March 22, at 20:00 GMT, set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
