On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, morning, protesters gathered for a demonstration, many of whom held placards conveying various messages.
Some of the placards displayed messages such as “Kurt go away,” “Football is not politics,” “FIFA and CAF must speak now,” and “Sports Minister act now.”
The current GFA president, Kurt Okraku, is poised to run unopposed in the upcoming GFA presidential elections following the disqualification of his rival, George Afriyie.
George Afriyie, a former vice president of the Ghana FA, had aimed to challenge incumbent GFA president Okraku, whom he lost to four years ago. However, in September, Afriyie was disqualified for failing to provide the required number of endorsements from GFA members for his candidacy.
In response, Afriyie has applied for an injunction to halt the presidential election and is also contesting his disqualification at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Additionally, Ghanaian club King Faisal, led by bankroller Alhaji Karim Grunsah, has filed a separate injunction to block the elections.
