Abdul Mumin Abdulai, the head coach of Real Tamale United (RTU), has disclosed that his players boycotted Wednesday’s training session due to five months of unpaid salaries.
Abdul Mumin further revealed that he himself has not received payment for nearly a year and emphasized the urgent need for assistance to address the club’s financial crisis.
RTU currently occupies the bottom position in the Ghana Premier League standings, having won just one of their last seven matches in the season.
“The players boycotted yesterday’s training because they haven’t received their salaries in nearly five months, plus some unpaid,” Abdul Mumin explained in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM. “Me, as the coach, I have not been paid in nearly a year. Our situation is dire, and we require immediate help.”
The Northern Blues are scheduled to face Heart of Lions in their upcoming matchweek 20 fixture of the Ghana Premier League at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday. However, it remains uncertain whether the players will participate in the match if their outstanding salaries are not settled.
