Pooley’s death should be the turning point of Ghana’s fainting football

Pooley’s death will delay the progress of the Ghana Premier League for 10 years if drastic measures are not taken against the perpetrators.

It is so simple because he was the only man promoting the unattractive Ghana Premier League. Now that he is dead and gone, who will replace him?

Question yourself! Will you advise your brother, son or friend to passionately follow the Ghana Premier League as Pooley was doing? When someone is passionate about football, nothing at all can prevent that very person from following the game except death and Nana Pooley was cruelly murdered because of his love for football.

Pooley’s death is like making a sacrifice for massive changes. The young man was energetic, he was enthusiastic and he was the biggest fan of Asante Kotoko, unquestionably.

Ghanaian football is at its lowest ebb. Ghana’s football is so horrible. Ghana’s football is very terrible considering everything.

Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, a staunch Asante Kotoko supporter, communicator and Ghana Premier League hyper was killed on Sunday at the Nana Koramansah Park in Nsoatre when the Porcupine Warriors visited Nsoatreman.

The unfortunate murder of Pooley should be the turning point in Ghana’s embarrassing football. If it fails to address the hooliganism in our domestic games, then there will never be a day things will change.

There is no point playing football when you can’t provide security. A reported 26 policemen were at the venue instead of the 120 they promised Asante Kotoko. The club, in the first place, lied and deceived Asante Kotoko and must give a reason why they failed to honour their promise.

Across the Brong and Ahafo, there are so many clubs in the top flight that hail from these two regions. Truth be told, these two regions have contributed and keep on contributing to the development of the domestic league in terms of player production.

Venues like Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre, Golden City Park in Berekum, Bechem Park in Bechem, Wenchi Town Park in Wenchi and Nana Agyeman Badu ll Park in Dormaa-Ahenkro are so intimidating.

They suffocate their visitors by going to the extent of destroying buses and physically attacking away teams and matchday officials.

None of the venues deserve to even host a horse race. Yes!! In a horse race competition, the venues are more attractive than Ghana Premier League venues.

Shame on the leadership of our football. They have been so poor and poor and poor and poor in the management of our football.

Last season, Bofoakwa Tano hosted Nsoatreman at the Sunyani Coronation Park on 19th November 2023. The game was goalless when Maxwell Konadu, the head coach of the visitors, was manhandled by some Bofoakwa Tano fans, leading to the coach being unconscious for almost two days. This is how foolish some clubs watch their fans misbehave. The perpetrators were never punished. No human being was made to pay for that atrocious act, and it is the main reason why fans continue to misbehave at our league centres.

Most of the Bono and Ahafo clubs have gained names for cheating and threatening to finish their opponents.

Berekum Chelsea was charged earlier in the season when they hosted Asante Kotoko by the GFA disciplinary committee. They decided to make life unwelcoming for the Porcupine Warriors.

Real Tamale United, four years ago, complained bitterly about how they were abused and attacked by the Nsoatre community after they visited them for a Matchday 6 of the Division One Zone One League fixture on February 7th at the Twumasi Sports complex at Nsuatre which ended 1-1. The FA gave them indefinite suspension until further notice. Nothing serious happened to them; they returned to the grounds so easily, so they think it is very okay to be so wicked to their opponents.

With Pooley’s murder, severe punishment is expected from the Ghana Football Association and Ghana Police Service for the club and everyone who was involved in the gruesome murder of Francis Frimpong.

A father of four, how will the children fare in life? How will the children see Nsoatre people? How will Pooley’s kids see football? How will Pooley’s kids rate Ghanaians?

Probably the biggest crime anyone can commit in life is to kill a fellow human being. Ghanaians are considered welcoming across the world, but the moment we start killing ourselves, that mentality from foreigners about Ghanaians will change.

Justice for Pooley has been trending on all Social Media platforms with many demanding the killing of the one who killed Pooley.

The huge storm surrounding Frimpong’s death is not stopping anytime soon, with Asante Kotoko suspending all football activities until Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the owner of Nsoatreman FC, Adwoa China, a journalist who eyewitnesses believe she orchestrated Pooley’s attack and the one who stabbed the deceased five times on the left side of his chest are all prosecuted.

Asante Kotoko on Tuesday morning called for perennial rivals and brothers, Accra Hearts of Oak to join the demand for justice and sanity in the league. In my opinion, it is the right call. Teams now must unite and demand whatever will make the league attractive.

R.I.P Pooley. We only hope your death will change everything about the disgraceful state of our football.

You played a good role in promoting the league, but some stupid people in Nsoatre decided to end your life.
