Brighton and Hove Albion have clarified their decision to loan Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman to Feyenoord for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. Despite his promising performances during pre-season, the 19-year-old, who joined Brighton from FC Nordsjaelland this summer on a five-year deal, has been sent on loan to gain regular first-team experience.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, explained the decision, stating, “Ibrahim has had a good pre-season with the squad. We have strong competition in the wide areas, and the feeling is that it is much better for Ibrahim’s development for him to be playing regular senior football. This is an excellent opportunity for him to play at Feyenoord, and we will be watching his progress as the season unfolds.”
Osman, who made a significant impact in Denmark last season by scoring ten goals and providing eight assists in 44 appearances, is expected to play a crucial role for Feyenoord this season. The loan deal, however, does not include a buy option, with Feyenoord covering the full cost of his wages.
The move to Feyenoord offers Osman a chance to follow in the footsteps of other Brighton players like Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra, who also benefited from loan spells before making their mark in the first team. Osman has already earned his debut with the Ghana national team and aims to solidify his position there.
Feyenoord, who recently secured a 1-1 draw against Willem II in their season opener, will be competing in the group stages of this season’s Champions League following their second-place finish in the league last year.
