Mohammed Polo: Aboubakar Ouattara is not a good coach for Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has expressed doubts about the capability of the club’s head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, to effectively lead the team into the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League season. Ouattara, who took over as head coach midway through the 2023/24 season, replaced Martin Koopman on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Although Ouattara managed to guide the Phobians to safety with a crucial 3-2 victory over Bechem United on the final day of the season at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Polo remains unconvinced about his suitability for the role. The former Ghana international voiced his concerns in a recent interview, questioning why the club continues to rely on Ouattara, particularly given the team’s narrow escape from relegation.

“I don’t understand why Hearts of Oak is still keeping Aboubakar Ouattara as head coach,” Polo remarked in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM. “Someone who nearly sent the team to relegation. I don’t think he has anything good to offer Hearts of Oak.”

Despite these criticisms, Ouattara is expected to continue in his role as head coach for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak has announced that they will complete their pre-season preparations at Asutsuare before beginning their campaign. The Rainbow Club is set to kick off the new season with a home match against newly-promoted Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium.
