Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has emphasized the importance of his team’s victory over Basake Holy Stars, which propelled them to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table.
The Porcupine Warriors secured a narrow 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium over the weekend, a result that saw them overtake Gold Stars in the league standings.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Ogum shared insights into his team’s performance and expressed his satisfaction with the crucial win.
“If you look at our structure on the field, we were able to hold onto the ball and try as much as possible to tease them and then create the opportunity to score. Out of that, we went on the attack, and then the ball came back, and Tenadu took that thunderbolt of a strike that took a deflection and went into the post. I think, in all, our structure was good,” he explained.
He also analyzed Holy Stars’ defensive approach and how Kotoko capitalized on it.
“They came on a high line, always leaving spaces behind them, which we played the ball into to create chances to score. So, to me, it was a good game, and the most important thing is that we got the three points and we are on top of the log.”
With this victory, Kotoko now sits at the top of the Ghana Premier League table with 42 points. The team has immediately shifted its focus to the next challenge against Berekum Chelsea as they aim to maintain their position at the top.
