Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has expressed his astonishment at receiving an invitation to join the Black Stars for the upcoming friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda.
The Porcupine Warriors shot-stopper, who has been in stellar form in the Ghanaian top-flight, received the unexpected call-up for the March international break. Notably, Asare is the lone home-based player selected for the national team’s upcoming fixtures.
Ghana is set to face Nigeria on March 22 and Uganda on March 26 in Morocco during the international break.
Under the guidance of returning coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars have announced a 26-man squad for the two friendlies, which includes four debutants: Frederick Asare, Nathaniel Adjei, Mohammed Diomande, and Ibrahim Osman.
Reacting to his first call-up, the former Accra Lions shot-stopper expressed his surprise and elation, stating, “Proud Moment!
Happy to receive my maiden callup for the senior national team Blackstars. Thank you for the support and love”
The friendly matches serve as crucial preparation for the four-time African champions as they gear up to face Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
