RB Salzburg midfielder Forson Amankwah has earned his debut call-up to the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the upcoming friendly clashes against Nigeria and Uganda.
The 21-year-old’s inclusion comes in response to an unexpected injury suffered by Elisha Owusu during Auxerre’s recent league fixture against Caen.
Unfortunately, the anticipated participation of Mohammed Diomande, a midfielder born in Ivory Coast and also named in the squad, appears unlikely due to delays in completing his naturalization process within the stipulated timeframe.
Amankwah’s presence is poised to fortify the midfield ranks, which are currently grappling with limited options.
Despite his lack of prior appearances for either the Black Stars or Ghana’s youth squads, Amankwah’s potential was recognized when he was previously selected in Chris Hughton’s expansive 55-man provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
