Incoming assistant coach of the Black Stars, Roger De Sa, has assured Ghanaians that the technical team will give their best effort at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming to make the country proud on football’s biggest stage.
De Sa, who is set to work alongside head coach Carlos Queiroz, is part of the new technical direction following the departure of Otto Addo after Ghana’s poor run of results against Austria and Germany in March. The experienced South African coach is no stranger to Queiroz, as the pair have previously worked together with national teams such as Iran and Egypt. They are now reuniting to lead Ghana’s campaign.
Speaking in an interview with South African media outlet KickOff, De Sa stressed that the focus of the team is not on making bold promises or setting strict targets, but on representing Ghana strongly at the tournament.
He explained that the main objective is to ensure Ghana competes well and carries the nation’s flag with pride on the global stage.
The new technical team is expected to be officially introduced in Accra on April 23, after which preparations for the tournament will begin in full.
Ahead of the tournament, Ghana will play friendly matches against Mexico and Wales on June 2 as part of their build-up.
At the , the have been placed in Group L, where they will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17. They will then face England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ghana heads into the tournament with hopes of improving on past performances, having exited early in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, and the new coaching setup is expected to bring fresh energy and stability to the team.
