Ghana international goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has joined the fight against racism in football, urging fans and players to take a stand against the growing issue.
Despite efforts by FIFA and other governing bodies to combat racism, incidents of racial abuse continue to plague the sport, with players such as Romelu Lukaku, Vinicius Jnr, and several Ghanaian players being victims.
Taking to Instagram, Ati-Zigi wrote, “SAY NO TO RACISM. #Message is clear”, making it clear that he is committed to eradicating the cancer from the sport.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been instrumental for St Gallen since joining the club in 2020, and has recently extended his stay until 2027.
Ati-Zigi is also the first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars, having won his position back after losing it to Richard Ofori during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
With 23 appearances for the Black Stars since his debut in June 2018, he is a key player for Ghana’s national team.
